How you can help:

Be Aware: The Hillside to the Hollow area is all private land. Private land owners could develop or sell their property at any time. There are no access agreements, trail designations or public easements. Visit the Hillside to the Hollow area, experience it, and know that without your help it may soon be lost forever.

Be Involved: Write or Email letters to the editor of the newspaper, the Mayor, the City Council, and the ADA County Open Space Advisory Task Force urging all to help preserve this area. Contact your Neighborhood Association and urge them to pledge their support.

Spring Hike Suggested Letter:

April 25, 2009

Dear Members of the Boise City Council

We have just completed our second annual Spring Hike with the Hillside to the Hollow Coalition on the parcel of Foothills land that stretches from Bogus Basin Road to 36th Street, parallel to Hill Road.  It was a beautiful day to hike with lots of wildflowers in bloom, meadow larks trilling and trails in excellent condition.

It is our greatest wish to preserve this land—open space that is so accesible to metropolitan Boise.  Its unspoiled hillsides and panoramic views of the city are something that we treasure and appreciate every day as we find respite in them after  a long day’s work.

It is our belief that the land is at a pivotal juncture in its history and we want to do everything humanly possible to keep it as it is—pristine and unspoiled for enjoyment and recreation by all Boiseans who seek it out on a daily basis.

Please know that we care about this land and anything you can to do keep it a part of Boise’s beautiful skyline is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Joe Hiker

Support Us: The time is now. Some of these six properties are for sale today. The city still has funds remaining in the Foothills Levy account which could be used to preserve the Hillside to the Hollow open space area, but it may not be enough. Every dollar you contribute will help.
